Int'l Cycling Race "L’Étape Egypt" kicks off in Sharm El-Sheikh

Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai launched Friday the start signal for the Sharm El Sheikh International Cycling Race L’Étape Egypt by Tour de France from in front of the El Salam Mosque and the Sharm El Sheikh Museum, in the presence of the Olivier Le Van Xieu - Consul général de France au Caire, with the participation of 400 competitors representing 30 countries.

The governor sounded the start signal for the 170-kilometer race from Sharm El-Sheikh to the city of Dahab, with the participation of 400 competitors, and  sounded the start of another signal for the 96-kilometer race with the participation of 70 male and female competitors representing 30 countries.

The French Consul in Cairo expressed his great admiration for the cycling race, its good organization and generous hospitality in Sharm El-Sheikh. He said that Sharm El-Sheikh is indeed a city of safety and security, and its people are hospitable.

The Sharm El Sheikh International Cycling Race is held in four stages: the first is for a distance of 170 kilometers from Sharm El-Sheikh to the city of Dahab, the second is for a distance of 96 kilometers with the participation of 70 male and female competitors, the 40-kilometre race on Al-Salam Road in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the participation of 90 male and female competitors, and the 6-kilometre race for families inside the city of Sharm El-Sheikh with the participation of 70 male and female competitors.

The participating countries include Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Lebanon, Yemen, Kuwait, Germany, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Russia, Canada, England, Scotland, and the Netherlands.
