In an exclusive interview with See News on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s unwavering commitment to the peace treaty with Israel — on the condition that Tel Aviv remains committed to its pledges.

His remarks come as the Palestinian cause and efforts to halt the war in Gaza top the global agenda, with the Israeli assault nearing its second year amid regional instability and what observers describe as a “muted” presence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Committed to Peace as Long as Israel Is” — Rejecting Baseless Doubts

The minister categorically dismissed claims that Egypt might abandon the peace treaty, describing such talk as “mere lies.”

He stressed that Egypt — the first Arab and Muslim nation to lead the path toward peace — sees it as a strategic choice, confirming:

“Egypt is committed to implementing the 1979 peace treaty with Israel for as long as the Israeli side abides by its obligations.”

Cairo’s View: Arrogance of Power Will Not Build Lasting Peace

Addressing proposals to halt the war, Abdelatty said the focus should be on implementing U.S. ideas for ending the assault, warning that blatant Israeli interference in Arab states “will not achieve security or stability.”

He cautioned against the illusion that peace can be achieved through force: “The arrogance of power will not lead to a stable Israel or a stable region… Israel may achieve some successes through military superiority, but lasting peace through force is far-fetched.”

He underscored that the only path to integration and sustainable peace is the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Egypt’s Comprehensive Post-War Plan: Reconstruction Conference Ready in Four Weeks

The minister outlined a clear Egyptian-Arab-Islamic vision for the post-war phase, starting with security and governance arrangements and ending with recovery and reconstruction.

Security and Governance: Egypt is training Palestinian police, while the “Arab Coalition” has a plan to deploy international forces with defined mandates to support the Palestinian Authority. An administrative governance committee of 15 technocratic members is ready to take charge of Gaza immediately.

Reconstruction: Cairo is ready to host the International Conference for the Reconstruction and Recovery of Gaza just four weeks after the war ends.

International Recognition of Palestine Strengthens Arab Momentum

Commenting on the wave of international recognitions of the State of Palestine — starting with France, the UK, and others — Abdelatty said these steps “add momentum to global engagement with the Palestinian issue and stir stagnant waters.” However, he emphasized the need to “build on these moves and translate them into policies on the ground” to halt “oppressive measures” aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause and to empower the Palestinian people.
