US ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Kelly Craft stressed the need to end "malicious" foreign intervention and fighting in Libya, calling for lasting peace alongside a permanent commitment to the arms embargo.
This came during a meeting with the UN special envoy for Libya Ghassan Salama at the UN headquarters on the sidelines of an emergency consultations session.
The urgent session was held at the request of Tunisia, the United Kingdom (UK) and Russia over Libyan crisis.
It is worth mentioning, US President Donald Trump had warned his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of the consequences of Turkish military intervention in Libya.
The Turkish parliament approved the deployment of troops, advisors, and equipment to Libya to assist the GNA, the internationally recognized authority that governs only a small part of the country.
General Haftar, who is running the Libyan National Army (LNA) on behalf of a competing Tobruk-based legislature, threatened to “confront and expel” foreign forces.
The (LNA) announced on Sunday that it fully controlled Sirte city and its port, western Libya.
Moreover, LNA forces also dominated Ghardabiya Airbase and the main military camps, which were affiliated to Fayez Al Sarraj’s militias.
Erdogan announced Sunday, January 5th the start of the deployment of Turkish soldiers in Libya, based on the green light given to him by the Turkish parliament a few days ago.
