Reports said that the official shutdown of the Internet Explorer browser may put Japanese companies in a real crisis.

Many companies in the Asian country are still working with the browser, despite the termination of its service last week because it has been slow to switch to other browsers, which may cause chaos for it that will last for months, according to the Japanese newspaper "Nikkei".

The paper mentioned that the IT provider, "Keyman's Net" conducted a survey of Japanese companies earlier this year, and found that many were forced to use Internet Explorer, due to the systems their customers use to deal with orders.

Some were also using the browser to handle things like employee attendance and expenses.

Over a fifth of the respondents didn't have a plan for how to move their businesses onto alternative browsers, such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

The Nikkei report also disclosed that the crisis extends to government agencies, pointing out that notifications related to Japan's pension service application must be displayed online in Internet Explorer mode on the latest "Edge" browser until at least 2029.

The report added that websites that are not compatible with modern browsers should remain available for several more years.
