The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has dispatched 17 tons of urgently needed medical supplies to Lebanon, amid a deepening healthcare crisis exacerbated by ongoing armed conflict in the region.

On Saturday, the ICRC confirmed that the shipment includes surgical equipment for treating burns and other injuries, vital for supporting the beleaguered healthcare system in Lebanon.

The country has been grappling with a healthcare crisis for some time, and the current situation has intensified due to the escalation of violence.

The medical supplies are set to be distributed across various hospitals and healthcare facilities, with a particular focus on two hospitals in the Beirut area and another facility in the southern part of the country.

In a collaborative effort, the World Health Organization (WHO) facilitated the delivery of additional aid, transporting supplies from Dubai via air freight.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the organization is working to send more medical supplies, noting that the current batch is sufficient to treat approximately 100,000 patients.
