A new international airport on a one-month trial basis was opened near Cairo to support the city which will be the Egyptian new capital from mid-2020, Reuters reported.

The Capital International Airport is found 70 km toward the east of Cairo and will alleviate crowds on Cairo International Airport. A third airport, close to the Giza Pyramids west of Cairo, the Sphinx International Airport, likewise opened in January.

"The Capital Airport will facilitate the weight on Cairo International Airport and Sphinx Airport," Aviation Minister Younis Al-Masry told correspondents on Tuesday, after a flight left Cairo and arrived at the new airport, which is around 48 km from the city.

"It will be another outlet for Cairo explicitly," he stated, adding that the airport would serve zones east of the capital including urban communities along the Suez Canal.

While the new airport will support territories east of Cairo, the Sphinx International Airport will give access toward the west, where the new Grand Egyptian Museum is located; it will be open one year from now.
