The joint Egyptian-French archaeological mission revealed a number of paintings, inscriptions, and miniature pictures of the kings of Amenhotep III, Thutmose IV, Psamtik II, and Ibris, during the implementation of the photographic archaeological survey project, for the first time, under the waters of the Nile in Aswan to study the rock inscriptions located between the Aswan dam and the High Dam.
Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities noted that the mission began its first season’s work in the area around the original islands of Philae and Knossos.
Dr. Hisham Al-Laithi, Head of the Egyptian Antiquities Preservation and Recording Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the mission had used, during its work, all modern techniques related to diving, archaeological surveying, photography, underwater video, and photogrammetry, in addition to archaeological drawing.
For his part, Dr. Islam Selim, Director General of the General Administration of Sunken Antiquities at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that the mission is currently working on producing three-dimensional models of the discovered inscriptions and studying them.
