Young people in Aswan have warmly welcomed Russian technological expertise as the “Week of Robotics and Innovative Educational Technology” arrived in the southern city, marking a new chapter in long-standing Egyptian–Russian cooperation.
The event, held by the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo in partnership with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), brought Russian experts to the AASTMT Aswan campus, where students received them with enthusiastic hospitality.
According to the visiting delegation, the warm welcome reflected a deep-rooted history of friendship between Egypt and Russia — from the construction of the High Dam to the iconic Egypt–Russia Friendship Monument that still stands in Aswan.
Several students said their grandparents had worked alongside Soviet specialists during the dam’s construction, further underscoring the city’s historic ties with Russia.
Vadim Zaitchikov, Director of Russian Cultural Centers in Egypt, expressed his happiness at the reception in Aswan, a city that continues to honor the memory of Soviet engineers who contributed to the High Dam — a project widely regarded as one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century.
Zaitchikov said the robotics initiative aims to build engineering competencies, support the creative abilities of young professionals, and expand access to modern technological knowledge. He noted that Aswan has long been a center of technical cooperation, recalling the establishment of a specialized training center decades ago, where Soviet experts delivered lectures and transferred their expertise to Egyptian counterparts.

“For this reason, Robotics Week in Aswan carries special significance — this city has been a vital link between Russia and Egypt throughout their history of cooperation,” he said.
Zaitchikov further noted that the program is not limited to Cairo and Alexandria, but seeks to bring advanced educational technologies to youth across more remote Egyptian governorates, ensuring equal opportunities for mastering modern engineering skills.

The “Week of Robotics” is an international educational project implemented by Russia’s Federal Agency for International Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), in collaboration with Stavropol State Agrarian University and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
