The initiative of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for the early detection of hearing loss in newborns has been launched in 60 health units and centers in Assiut governorate.

It is a part of President Sisi`s “100 Million Seha” initiative.

Major General Jamal Noureddine, Governor of Assiut said that the new initiative provides compulsory testing for all newborns within 28 days of their birth.

“The appropriate diagnosis is made within 3 months of birth,” he added. “After 6 months of birth, the beginning of treatment steps for each child will be determined.

On his part, Dr. Mohamed Zain, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Assiut pointed out that 60 primary care units were equipped from the units entrusted with giving basic vaccinations to children, and registration of birth certificates at the cities of the governorate.

Noteworthy, Sis directed last May the early detection of hearing loss by conducting hearing screening routine for newborns to facilitate future follow-up and treatment of children.

He ordered intensifying efforts aimed to transfer Egypt's health and medical expertise to other African countries.

The implementation of the president's initiative to eliminate virus C, as well as the initiative to examine school students to detect malnutrition diseases has achieved great success.

It is expected that a future program to be implemented under the auspices of the president for the early detection of breast cancer.

The Health Ministry has vowed to eliminate hepatitis C from Egypt by 2022.

In January, the minister unveiled an Egyptian initiative to treat African people from hepatitis C, starting with the Nile Basin countries that have an estimated 3.7 million hepatitis C patients, representing 30 percent of the total number of infected people in Africa.
