Egypt is reinforcing its food security strategy by increasing domestic wheat procurement, expanding modern storage capacity and supporting local farmers, according to an infographic released by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), and the Cabinet.

The infographic shows that more than 4 million tons of locally produced wheat were procured during the 2026 procurement season, while over 3.1 million feddans were cultivated with wheat during the 2025/2026 agricultural season. The government also set a procurement price of EGP 2,200 per ardeb to encourage local production.

The infographic highlights that Egypt now operates more than 80 modern grain silos with a combined strategic storage capacity of 5.5 million tons, supported by a nationwide network of hundreds of collection and storage facilities serving wheat-producing governorates.

Officials say the modern storage system has significantly reduced post-harvest losses, improved grain quality and enhanced supply chain efficiency, helping strengthen strategic wheat reserves, reduce reliance on imports and support the country's long-term food security objectives.
