Indonesia announced it is ready to provide temporary shelter for wounded Palestinians and orphaned children from Gaza, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
President Prabowo Subianto said on Wednesday that Indonesia is prepared to evacuate injured individuals and those suffering from psychological trauma, along with orphaned children, if they wish to seek refuge in the country.
He confirmed that Indonesia would send aircraft to transport them and has instructed the foreign minister to discuss evacuation plans immediately with Palestinian authorities.
Indonesia plans to evacuate an initial group of about 1,000 victims. They will remain in the country until they recover fully and conditions in Gaza are safe enough for their return. Subianto emphasized that the evacuation is a temporary measure, not permanent resettlement.
The Indonesian president also mentioned that he would coordinate the evacuation with Middle Eastern countries, some of which have already accepted Palestinians for humanitarian reasons.
Several nations have encouraged Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, to play a stronger role in efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza. Subianto said the situation is complex but expressed confidence that Indonesia could take a more active role in seeking peace.
Indonesia has long been a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause and continues to advocate for humanitarian assistance and conflict resolution.
