Indonesia's Defense Minister announced on Instagram the signing of an agreement on the sale of 24 F-15EX fighter jets.

This strategic move is poised to enhance Indonesia's aerial dominance and military capabilities.

Boeing, the aerospace giant, issued a statement affirming that the deal would grant Indonesia the capability to establish air superiority.

The financial details of this significant deal have not been disclosed by either party involved. The formal approval of the agreement is still pending from the United States government.

Last November, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin personally traveled to Jakarta for negotiations on this deal.

At the time, Austin emphasized that the agreement would foster stronger collaboration with the US armed forces and provide a substantial boost to the Indonesian fleet, complementing its existing F-16 aircraft.

The F-15EX fighter jet represents the latest iteration of this aircraft series developed by McDonnell Douglas, a subsidiary of Boeing.

This cutting-edge aircraft is currently operated by only six countries worldwide. Jakarta's military fleet presently comprises US F-16 aircraft and aging Russian Sukhoi planes.

Against the backdrop of tense relations between China and the United States, over 4,000 American and Indonesian soldiers engaged in extensive joint military exercises in the Pacific Ocean over the course of two weeks last year.

Washington has expressed concerns about China's increasing presence in the region and its regular military drills near Taiwan.

As part of its efforts to modernize its air force fleet, Indonesia, an economic powerhouse in Southeast Asia, procured 42 Rafale fighter jets from France last year at a cost slightly exceeding $8 billion.
