India’s Participates in World Urban Forum 2024, Cairo

India has actively participated in the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum, in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4 to 8, 2024. T

he India Pavilion showcases India’s commitment to sustainable urban development through a series of impactful sessions organized by various government and non-governmental entities, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA). 

Attendees are engaging in discussions on a diverse range of topics, with Indian representatives participating actively in sessions focused on sustainable urban livelihoods, zero-waste cities, nature-based solutions for urban planning, and digital governance for enhancing livelihoods. 

By focusing on gender-responsive and sustainable practices, as well as fostering innovation and partnerships, India's participation is highlighting its dedication to building inclusive and resilient urban environments while addressing pressing climate challenges.

2. During the World Urban Forum in Cairo, India and Egypt have engaged in significant discussions to strengthen their collaboration on urban development. Mr. Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, inaugurated the India Pavilion, showcasing India's progress in sustainable urbanization and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

As head of the Indian delegation, Mr. Katikithala met with Dr. Sayed Ismail, Egyptian Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, to explore mutual support in urban initiatives. 

He also held discussions with H.E. Mr. Khaled Abbass, Chairman and Managing Director of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), and Dr. Momen Othman, Head of the Museum Sector in the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, on areas of mutual cooperation to further enhance the strategic India-Egypt partnership.

3. On the sidelines of the World Urban Forum, Mr. Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, India, met with delegations from Malaysia, the UAE, and UN-Habitat representatives. 

These discussions focused on fostering global partnerships and sharing innovative practices for sustainable urban development.
