Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Egypt on March 14-15, after attending the India-EU summit in Brussels.
It is scheduled that Modi will hold meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as well as a galaxy of state officials including Prime Minster Moustafa Madbouli.
This visit will mark India’s commitment to Africa ahead of the fourth edition of India-Africa summit in India later this year.
Egyptian-Indian Bilateral relations
Egypt and India have enjoyed strong deep relations throughout history.
Ahead of the PM’s proposed visit, the eighth edition of India by the Nile festival is being held from March 2-10.
It showcases multidisciplinary performances, including puppet theatre, classical and contemporary music, visual arts, food, yoga and dance across Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said.
Considered the largest foreign festival in Egypt, it has presented renowned artistes such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shubha Mudgal and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
Economic cooperation
The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and India hit $4.5 billion by the end of 2018, according to official figures.
Moreover, India's investments in the Egyptian market amounted to $3.3 billion through 50 projects operating in the fields of manufacturing, construction, agriculture, garments, auto parts, chemicals, food industries, services, pharmaceuticals, plastics, energy and renewable energy.
Military cooperation
India and Egypt had signed a security agreement related to sharing information on and combining forces against terrorism.
