India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia from October 22 to 23 to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit, which will be held in Kazan, Russia.
In a statement aired by the Indian news channel NDTV, the ministry explained that during the visit, Modi will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from BRICS member countries and invited leaders at the summit, which is themed "Strengthening Multilateralism for Fair Global Development and Security."
The statement highlighted that the summit provides an important platform for leaders to discuss international issues and identify potential areas of cooperation among member states for the future.
This marks Modi’s second visit to Russia this year, as he traveled to Moscow in July to attend the 22nd annual India-Russia summit, where he held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The BRICS group consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newly joined members including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, and Ethiopia.
