Indian Embassy to Organise Celebration of International Day of Yoga

Yoga is the valuable gift of the ancient Indian civilization to the world. Yoga addresses the spiritual, mental and physical aspects, and so it helps people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which enhances harmony between mind, soul and body. 

Yoga is not only for health and well-being but also promotes peace and harmony as well as progress and brotherhood. 

Keeping these objectives in mind, 21st June is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga after the adoption of the Resolution proposed by the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and co-sponsored by 177 nations, including Egypt, at the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. 

 This resolution by UN itself is a recognition of the significance and benefits of yoga. The objective behind that decision was to increase awareness regarding the valuable benefits of Yoga and globally promote for adopting healthy and peaceful lifestyle based on Yoga.

Embassy of India, Cairo in Association with the Cairo Governorate will be organising the celebrations of the 9th International Day of Yoga on the Wednsday, 21st June 2023 at 8:00 a.m. at Al Horreya Park, Zamalek, Cairo. 

As part of the celebrations Ambassador of India to Egypt Mr Ajit Gupte and the Chief Guest General Mohamed Sultan, Chairman of Specialized Gardens Sector (Cairo Geovernorate) will address the attendees. The celebrations will be followed by practice of Common Yoga Protocol by the participants.  

 `Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', that is, 'The world is one family' has beenthee guiding light of Indian civilization since ancient times. Reflecting this civilizational ethos, the theme for this year's International Day of Yoga is 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', in keeping with the theme of India’s ongoing G-20 Presidency, "One Earth, One Family, One Future."
