The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrated International Women's Day at the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Cultura, Cairo in the presence of Ajit Gupte, Ambassador of India to Egypt, Priti Gupte. A number of cultural activities were organized to celebrate this occasion, including special Yoga & Meditation sessions and performances of Indian dance, singing of hindi songs etc.
Ambassador Mr Gupte highlighted the Indian traditions of respecting women and their high status in society, contribution to freedom struggle and role in economic modernisation. He also briefed the audience on numerous programmes run by the Government of India under 'Nari Shakti' (Women empowerment schemes). It is pertinent to mention that the Indian government has a number of programmes and schemes for the advancement of women.
