The Embassy of India in Cairo commemorates 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today, on 2nd October 2023, by paying floral tributes to the Gandhi bust in Al Hurriya Park in Zamalek. A bust of Mahatma Gandhi was inaugurated in 2019 at Al Hurriya Park to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji.
On the occasion, Ambassador of India, H.E. Mr. Ajit Gupte delivered the opening remarks, followed by offering of floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi and singing of Gandhiji’s favourite ‘bhajans’ (Hymns).
H.E. General Mohamed Sultan, Head of Specialized Parks from Cairo Governorate represented the Egyptian government and paid his respect to Mahatma Gandhi, who is a widely revered symbol of anti-colonial movement in Egypt as well.
The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated globally as the ‘International Day of Non-violence’ since 2007. Every year, events are organized on 2nd October to commemorate Gandhi’s philosophy and principles.
