CAIRO, Nov.7 (SEE)- Indian Ambassador to Egypt Rahul Kolshershit commenced a photo exhibition entitled “Kano Gandhi” in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The displayed photos are an original collection banked up by his late grandson Kano Gandhi in which the Indian Cultural Relations Council borrowed from the Nazar Benidilhi Foundation.

Gandhi’s most iconic portrait “The Spinning Wheel” was taken by Margaret White of Life magazine in 1940. White’s job was challenging as Gandhi was a bit meticulous and disliked bright light. Also, one of the conditions urged her to learn spinning the wheel to be allowed to take the photographs.

The Mahatma learned spinning from 1930 to 1933 during his prison period to learn self-reliance and dispense the occupiers’ products.

Indian Cultural Center Maulana Azad organized the event at the “Hanager” hall of the Opera House.
