India's anti-missile defense system shot down a missile fired by Pakistan near Amritsar in Punjab state on Thursday, amid escalating tensions between the two countries.
India TV reported that the missile was launched at 1:05 a.m. India local time today, heading toward a village 30 kilometers from the international border.
The channel noted that the missile broke into three pieces, and its debris was scattered throughout the village.
India has launched airstrikes on cities in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered part of Kashmir. Pakistan, for its part, asserted that the attack violated its sovereignty.
