A new university ranking system for BRICS nations is being developed through cooperation between India and Russia, with plans for future expansion across the wider BRICS+ bloc, according to Debjit Chakraborty, Director of the Chamber for Indo-Russo Technology Collaboration, as reported by TV BRICS.

Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Chakraborty said the initiative is being created in partnership with a leading Moscow-based university and will initially be tested between India and Russia before being rolled out to other BRICS countries.

The project forms part of a broader effort by the Indo-Russia Innopraktika Technology Hub and its partners to develop joint technological frameworks and innovation platforms that can be adopted across the BRICS+ community.

Chakraborty highlighted growing cooperation between India and Russia in key sectors including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, health technology, educational technology, trusted digital infrastructure, and green energy.

He noted that jointly developed Indo-Russian solutions could serve as models for other BRICS members and Global South markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

"Everything we are doing is intended to encompass the entire BRICS+ community, not just India and Russia," Chakraborty said.

He added that initiatives such as the BRICS+ Tech Forum and sovereign technology projects could strengthen technological self-reliance and help build a unified innovation ecosystem across BRICS countries.
