The Ministry of Health in India announced that 87 of the recently reported 183 Omicron cases were fully vaccinated and received the booster shots, RT reported on Friday.
The state recorded 358 infections with the recently emerged variant since December 2; in addition, 114 were recovered from the virus, according to authorities.
Rajesh Bhushan, the Secretary of Health, revealed that Asia is seeing a decline in COVID-19 infections, unlike Europe and North America.
Bhushan also highlighted that 89% of India’s residents aged over 18 years old had at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 61% were fully vaccinated.
Early this month, the country detected the earliest two cases with the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
The health authorities reported that two cases were men from South Karnataka who carried the virus during their trip overseas without mentioning their departure point for India.
Medical sources also added that all people who were in direct connection with the two cases were selected and are under observation.
Moreover, the state is still recovering from the tough medical situation it had this year after the tragic surge of COVID-19 infections, and the appearance of Delta, and Delta + strains that spread global concerns in the past few months before the rise of Omicron.
The two Indian strains unstoppably emerged globally as they were detected in more than 130 countries around the world.
