In a significant move to foster educational ties between India and Africa, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), under the Ministry of External Affairs, has announced the availability of 13 scholarship slots for Egyptian students as part of the India - Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2024-2025. This initiative is aimed at students interested in pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses across various disciplines at esteemed Indian universities and institutes.

The ICCR's A2A Scholarship Portal is now open for applications, offering a gateway for students to access quality education in India. As per the Embassy of India in Cairo, this scholarship scheme underscores the commitment to enhancing cultural and educational exchanges between India and Egypt.

Key features of the Maitri Scholarship Scheme include:

Application Process:

Candidates are required to register and apply exclusively online via the ICCR Scholarship Portal, known as "Admission 2 Alumni." The deadline for submitting applications is set for May 31, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

The scheme is open to students aged 18 to 40 for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, while PhD applicants can be up to 50 years old. Prospective students can choose up to five universities or institutes based on their preference for the field of study. A notable requirement for BSc and BE/B.Tech aspirants is the completion of physics, chemistry, and mathematics (PCM) in their school-leaving examinations, a prerequisite for engineering courses.

Language Proficiency:

To ensure students can thrive in an English-speaking academic environment, the ICCR has introduced a 500-word essay in English to assess proficiency. Applicants may also submit TOEFL/IELTS scores as part of their application.

Scholarship Benefits:

Selected students will receive comprehensive support, including return economy class airfare, tuition fees, living allowance, and accommodation within the campus hostel.

The ICCR encourages all interested Egyptian students to visit the official website of their chosen universities or institutes to familiarize themselves with offered courses, eligibility criteria, and other pertinent information before applying. This scholarship represents a unique opportunity for students to expand their horizons and pursue academic excellence in India, further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Egypt.
