For the first time, India has secured a role in the international process of drafting standards for sixth-generation (6G) telecommunications technology, marking a significant step in the country’s digital evolution.
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that India has moved beyond being merely a consumer of telecom technologies to becoming an active contributor in setting global benchmarks. He noted that the Bharat 6G Alliance has expanded rapidly, bringing together industry leaders, research institutions, and international partners.
India’s involvement in global standardization forums, including the International Telecommunication Union and the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, reflects its growing ambition to help define the technical architecture of next-generation connectivity. Experts say this development strengthens India’s position in the global telecom arena as the world begins preparing for the 6G era.
