India and Egypt took a step toward expanding cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector on Monday, as a high-level Indian delegation met with key stakeholders in Egypt’s healthcare industry to explore new avenues for trade, investment, and technology collaboration.

The delegation was led by Raja Bhanu, Director General of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), with the support of India’s Ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K. Reddy. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties in pharmaceuticals, including joint ventures, technology transfer, and capacity-building initiatives.

Officials highlighted the growth potential of Egypt’s pharmaceutical market, which is projected to increase from about $5.1 billion in 2024–25 to $5.7 billion in 2025–26. Opportunities were identified in areas such as generic medicines, biosimilars, and vaccines—segments in which Indian companies have significant global experience.

According to a statement released by the Indian Embassy in Cairo, Ambassador Reddy said the visit reflects India’s commitment to deepening engagement with Egypt’s healthcare sector, noting that closer cooperation could support regional supply chains across the Middle East and North Africa. He added that the Indian Embassy would continue facilitating partnerships between companies in both countries.

Bhanu underscored India’s role as a major supplier of affordable, high-quality medicines worldwide, saying Indian firms are well positioned to work with Egyptian partners as the country expands healthcare coverage and local manufacturing.

According to participants, future cooperation is expected to span pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and development, clinical research, biotechnology, and vaccine production. The talks also included discussions on positioning Egypt as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and exports.

The meeting marked the launch of a series of initiatives aimed at boosting investment flows, encouraging knowledge exchange, and advancing healthcare innovation between the two countries, officials said.
