Three cities in India ranked among the four most polluted worldwide in 2025, according to a new global report, underscoring mounting environmental and public health concerns.
The city of Loni in Uttar Pradesh was identified as the most polluted globally, followed by Byrnihat and New Delhi, placing India at the center of the global air quality crisis.
The findings have intensified political debate, with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticizing the government’s broader policy direction, while public health concerns continue to rise.
Separately, India’s Health Ministry issued a warning against the unregulated use of GLP-1-based weight-loss drugs, citing potential health risks.
The report comes amid growing scrutiny of India’s domestic and international policies, including allegations raised by a Canadian Sikh activist over what he described as transnational repression linked to Indian authorities.
The latest data highlights the urgent need for stronger environmental regulation and coordinated policy action to address worsening air pollution across major urban and industrial centers.
