The death toll from a devastating avalanche in Uttarakhand, a Himalayan state in northern India, has risen to seven after rescue teams recovered three more bodies.

Efforts are now focused on locating the last missing worker as search operations intensify.

Initially, authorities had reported four fatalities following the avalanche, which struck a construction site near the village of Mana on Friday.

At the time of the incident, around 50 workers were asleep in a temporary camp made of metal containers at an altitude of over 3,200 meters.

According to the latest update from the Indian Army, 46 workers buried under the snow have been rescued, with some sustaining severe injuries.

Search teams, including military personnel, continue to comb the area for the final missing individual.

Avalanches and landslides are common in the upper Himalayan regions, particularly during the winter months, posing a constant risk to residents and workers in these remote mountainous areas.
