Indian authorities announced that at least 30 people were killed and several others were injured in a landslide caused by heavy rainfall in the city of Katra in Jammu and Kashmir state.
India's NDTV channel reported in its English-language broadcast on Wednesday that the landslide occurred near the Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra. Rescue teams transferred the injured to a hospital for treatment and are also providing assistance to those trapped by the landslide.
The channel indicated that the Indian Meteorological Department advised citizens, especially those residing in mountainous and low-lying areas, to stay in their homes and adhere to instructions for their safety.
