Independent: Political Dispute in Israel May Last for Years

The Independent, a UK daily newspaper published an analytical article written by Kim Sengupta, in which he believes that the political dispute, which sparked widespread protests in Israel over the amendment of the Judicial Law, will continue for years to come.

Kim says that the bill presented by the right-wing government strikes at the independence of the judiciary and obscures legal oversight of political actions.

Sengupta believes that the proposed judicial amendments protect Netanyahu personally in his trial on corruption charges against him.

He adds that the widespread protests paralyzed activity in Israel, but the biggest development in the issue is the position of the security services on the proposed reforms.

Netanyahu fired his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, because he called for stopping the judicial amendments , warning that he had never seen such anger in the ranks of the security services before.

Military officials also noted the refusal of reservists to join their positions.

Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir accused the police chief, Kobi Shabtai, of being lenient with the protesters.

And if this coalition government falls, it will lead to a sixth election in four years.
