Egypt's Minister of Immigration and Expatriates' Affairs Nabila Makram, has discussed with Counselor Hamada Al Sawy, the Egyptian Public Prosecutor, a complaint filed by up to 300 Egyptian expatriates who were subjected to fraud by two people. The two had allegedly claimed that they were going to help them travel to Kuwait after spending a quarantine period and conducting a Covid-19 analysis in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the complaint, the so-called “M.A.M.”, owner of a tourism company, along with Mrs. “D.A.M.”, have deluded these citizens through a satellite channel and social media outlets, providing offers for those wishing to return to the State of Kuwait via spending a 14-day quarantine period in Emirates, including flight reservation and Corona virus test fees.

Defendants claimed that they are responsible for booking the hotel rooms and helping the victims to return to Kuwait, after paying EGP 17 to 20 thousand, whether through a bank transfer, cash receipt, or through one of the famous electronic payment applications.

The complaint stated that the company sent traveling tickets from Egypt to UAE and airline tickets from the UAE to Kuwait, and after the victims arrived to UAE's hotels and resided for the specified periods; they were surprised that the tickets to Kuwait were issued by various fake companies that do not have any data registered on Airlines.

Victims then contacted the company, asking them to work on the problem; surprisingly on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, the hotel ordered them to leave the rooms explaining that the company did not pay for the entire residence bill.

Shortly, it turned out that the company has closed its headquarters and laid off all employees and the owner of the company denied any responsibility towards them.

As a result, the Minister of Immigration, Ambassador Nabila Makram, received complaints from these citizens stating that they are stuck in the UAE, having no money to return neither to Kuwait nor to Egypt nor even to stay in the hotel, and that they had been deluded and swindled by the company.

Thus, Makram was keen to communicate with the Public Prosecutor and Egypt's consulates in the UAE and Kuwait to solve the problem of these citizens, stressing the need for the citizens' relatives to head to the Ministry of Immigration complaints office with official papers in order to complete the legal complaint procedures.

The minister then emphasized that travelers to Kuwait should make sure that all flight and hotel reservation documents are legal.
