The Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) of the Egyptian Cabinet revealed that Egypt has secured the 22nd position out of 63 countries in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) for the year 2024, with a score of 61.8 points.
The index was issued by the German Watch Foundation for Environmental Protection. Egypt also ranked second in the Middle East and North Africa region, after Morocco.
Egypt has achieved international success in the domain of climate change, which is the culmination of the country's tremendous efforts towards transitioning to a green, sustainable economy. Additionally, the country has made significant strides in reducing carbon emissions and utilizing renewable energy sources, according to IDSC.
The CCPI is an independent monitoring tool that tracks the climate protection performance of 60 countries and the EU. It assesses each country's performance in four categories: GHG Emissions (40% of the overall ranking), Renewable Energy (20%), Energy Use (20%), and Climate Policy (20%).
