British actor Idris Elba revealed that the highly-anticipated movie adaptation of the popular BBC series “Luther” is set to start filming in September.
In a new interview with Variety, Elba, who plays the lead role in the BBC crime drama, expressed his extreme excitement to pe into the new project and affirmed his expectation for bolder storylines that will span across the globe.
“Luther”, which was created by Neil Cross, had debuted in 2010 and run for five seasons on BBC. It featured Elba in the titular role of John Luther, a detective chief inspector working for the Serious Crime Unit of the U.K. police. He is a dedicated police officer who is keenly affected by the darkness of the crimes he deals with.
The British actor earned two Golden Globes and a Royal Television Society best actor award for his portrayal.
“Luther” is set up as a 20th Century Fox Television, BBC Worldwide Productions, Chernin Entertainment production, with Elba alongside Peter Chernin, Julie Gardner, Katherine Pope, and Jane Tranter serving as executive producers.
