British actor Idris Elba will star in Paramount Pictures' upcoming sequel to "Sonic the Hedgehog".
"The Suicide Squad" actor announced Tuesday on social media that he will be the voice of Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic's frenemy and the guardian of Master Emerald in the video games.
Elba also shared the first glimpse at his character and captioned:" Knock, knock….. #SonicMovie2 #Knuckles".

The sequel also features James Marsden and Tika Sumpter reprising their roles as well as Ben Schwartz returning as Sonic the Hedgehog and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.
It will also star Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore.

Jeff Fowler will also return to direct from a script by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.
The movie is based on the SEGA video game and is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, Hitoshi Okuno with Haruki Satomi, Yukio Sugino, Shuji Utsumi, Nan Morales, and Tim Miller serving as executive producers.
The sequel is centered around the adventures Sonic faces after Tom and Maddie leave him home while they go on vacation, following his desire for more freedom. However, Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time, with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations.
"Sonic the Hedgehog 2" will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
