Egypt’s engineering exports have been reported to record strong and sustained growth in recent years, supported by expanding product lines and increasing penetration into European and international markets, according to the cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDCS).
IDCS showcased developments in the sector, including an interview with Sherif El-Sayyad, head of the Engineering Export Council of Egypt, who outlined key drivers behind the sector’s performance and future expansion plans.
Engineering exports have grown at an annual rate exceeding 20% since 2020, reflecting the strength of Egypt’s industrial base and the competitiveness of its products, El-Sayyad said. He added that Egyptian goods have demonstrated their ability to meet international standards, including stringent European specifications related to energy efficiency and safety.
Exports are no longer limited to Arab and African markets but have increasingly reached European destinations, underscoring the global competitiveness of Egyptian manufacturing, he noted.
The sector’s export structure in 2025 has been divided into two main categories: established products driving growth and emerging segments expected to gain momentum. Key traditional exports include electrical cables, home appliances, and machinery and equipment, which continue to serve as the backbone of the industry.
Meanwhile, newer segments—particularly automotive components—have seen significant expansion, with exports surpassing $1 billion in 2025, making them one of the fastest-growing categories within the sector. Machinery and equipment, as well as bus manufacturing, were also identified as promising areas for future growth, especially given their labor-intensive nature.
More than 370 companies are currently registered as full members of the export council, representing a core group of major exporters driving the sector’s international presence.
Efforts to boost exports have focused on promoting Egyptian products through international exhibitions, trade missions, and targeted market research. These initiatives include organizing outbound and inbound trade delegations, as well as conducting detailed market studies to help companies better understand demand dynamics and expand their market share abroad.
The council also works closely with relevant authorities to identify priority markets and develop strategies to facilitate market entry, in line with Egypt’s broader efforts to increase exports and strengthen its industrial sector.
