Dr. Amr Talaat, Communications and Information Technology (ICT) Minister and Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology opened the Internet of Things (IoT) Laboratory at the Smart Village.

The Academy has adopted a project to establish Egypt Internet of Things lab. It was contracted in 2017 and the academy funded the project by more than EGP 1.5 million. The Institute of Information Technology contributed more than 500 thousand pounds to the project.

After nearly 3 years of continuous work and with the completion of all axes of the project, it became ready to receive students, graduates and companies working in the field of Internet applications of things. The Institute of Information Technology receives the students at its headquarters in the Smart Village.

In his speech, the President of the Academy of Scientific Research stated: “The Academy adopts research, development, innovation, applied research projects. It also welcomes the economical technological solutions that are applicable to confront the urgent challenges and problems in various fields.”

“The project is being implemented within the executive plan of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Sakr added.” “ It is an implementation of Egypt's science, technology and innovation strategy 2030 and Egypt's vision for sustainable development 2030.”

He said: “The first call was announced in 2015, and most of its projects have been implemented and have achieved some of the desired goals, especially in the field of information technology.”

It is worth noting that the lab aims to learn and practice the skills of creating IoT programs and applications using physical devices that make up the Internet of Things. It includes sensors, gateways to transfer information, control devices, and what it needs to implement IoT applications. The lab provides an understanding of the principles of the Internet of Things, its tools, and the communication protocol (technical agreements for communication) between the sensors and the controllers connected to the network.
