The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that Palestinian residents in northern Gaza City are lacking essential services and facing hostilities after being ordered by the Israeli military to evacuate. The ICRC stated that the evacuation orders have affected thousands of families and caused confusion and fear due to unclear instructions.
The ICRC emphasized that the situation in Gaza has become increasingly dangerous, with nowhere being considered safe. The struggle for survival is stripping people of their dignity.
The Israeli military dropped thousands of leaflets on Gaza City, urging all residents to leave immediately as part of an intensified military offensive. Earlier this week, tens of thousands of Palestinians in 19 blocs in Gaza City were required to evacuate, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
According to UN statistics from early July, around 1.9 million people, or about nine out of ten residents in the Gaza Strip, have been displaced. The Israeli offensive was launched in response to a Hamas incursion into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, during which approximately 1,200 people were killed and over 200 others were taken hostage.
The Gaza-based health authorities have confirmed that the Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza has risen to 38,345.
