On Friday, Peruvian President Dina Bolurate insisted that she will not resign as president after the latest protests in the country.

The clashes left behind 24 victims in five weeks.

Bolurate said in TV statement: "Some voices that have come from the violent and radical factions are asking for my resignation, provoking the population into chaos, disorder and destruction."

She added: "I will not resign. My commitment is with Peru."

Thousands took to the streets of Lima, the Peruvian capital, in a peaceful protest against the new government and President Dina Polartec, after weeks of bloody clashes that erupted after the overthrow of former President Pedro Castillo, leaving at least 42 people dead, according to Reuters.

"Dina Asesina!" the demonstrators chanted (Our president is our killer) carrying cardboard coffins, pictures of the victims, and anti-government slogans through the streets of Lima, in the first mass protest in the capital in the new year.

The march, organized by trade unions and left-wing groups, took place without incident. The clashes, which began in early December, are the worst outbreak of violence in Peru in more than 20 years.

During yesterday's protest, Labor Minister Eduardo García announced his resignation on Twitter, saying the country needed to apologize for the deaths and urging the government to acknowledge that "mistakes have been made and must be corrected."

Garcia said the situation could not remain this way until April 2024, the proposed date for the elections, which comes two years earlier than scheduled.
