On Thursday, accusations of tax fraud were directed at Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, according to a judicial document seen by Agence France-Presse.
The special prosecutor in charge of the investigation stated that Hunter was involved in a scheme to evade paying at least $1.4 million in federal taxes due for the period from 2016 to 2019.
The US Department of Justice also mentioned that a federal court in Los Angeles has charged Hunter Biden with participating in a four-year scheme to evade taxes.
The department clarified that Hunter Biden faces a total of nine criminal charges and could potentially face a maximum prison sentence of 17 years if convicted.
It's worth noting that this is the second federal-level accusation against him.
Previously, federal charges were filed against Hunter Biden (53 years old) related to the illegal possession of firearms.
The legal troubles facing Hunter, who is a lawyer and works in the field of lobbying, have cast a shadow over his father's re-election campaign.
