Hungary on Saturday announced a ban on importing grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine, in a similar move by Poland, in order to protect their domestic production.

The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture stated that grains, oil-seeds and many other agricultural products will be banned, as the ban will last until June 30.

In a statement, Budapest said that during the ban "the government expects a permanent solution and awaits EU measures. We are committed to representing the interests of the Hungarian agricultural community".

It should be noted that on Saturday the Polish Cabinet allowed the relevant ministries of the country to impose a temporary ban on the import of grain and food products from Ukraine.

Six EU countries, including Poland, called for the creation of a single European mechanism for the purchase of Ukrainian grain and the introduction of customs quotas for agricultural products from Ukraine to EU countries.
