Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto affirmed that his country would block any European Union (EU) effort to jointly raise funds to help Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

Szijjarto noted that Hungary has provided support for Ukraine on a bilateral basis, asserting that it will continue to do so.

Nonetheless, Budapest opposes doing this jointly with other EU member states.

In previous remarks, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that only Moscow can guarantee the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Putin stressed that NATO and the West were to blame for triggering the crisis, adding that Russia has never considered itself an enemy of the West despite the ongoing conflict.

"In current circumstances of brutal conflict - I will say some things straight - Russia, being an independent, self-sufficient civilization, has never considered and does not consider itself an enemy of the West," he said.

The Russian leader added: "This West is somewhat close to us, in many regards, we have common roots that stem from ancient times.”
