Hundreds Flee Home as Volcano Erupts in Indonesia

On Thursday, the Disaster Response in Indonesia mentioned that Mount Merapi Volcano erupted last night.

The Merapi Volcano spewed lava and ash, and prompting more than 250 residents in the surrounding area to flee.

Indonesian Geological Agency said on Twitter that the Volcano spewed hot clouds; a mixture of ash and volcanic materials, which flowed five km long on its sides between midnight and 2 AM local time.

The Disaster Response reported that 253 residents in the surrounding area around the the Volcano in Yogyakarta left their homes, while some villages were covered in ash. No reports of injuries or deaths so far.

Merapi is one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and it was already on the second-highest disaster warning level.

The last violent eruption of this Volcano was 2010, and 350 were killed, according to Reuters.
