A fast-moving wildfire in Northern California has prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents in Oakland, as firefighters work to contain the rapidly spreading flames.
According to the Oakland Fire Department, the fire broke out along a hillside on Friday evening, forcing people in nearby neighborhoods to leave their homes as a precaution.
The blaze, which has already scorched 10 acres, saw over 80 firefighters dispatched to battle the flames.
Local authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people ordered to evacuate, but it is estimated to be in the hundreds.
The wildfire began on Friday afternoon and quickly spread, aided by dry conditions. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Meteorologists have also issued fire weather warnings for large parts of California, indicating increased risk due to high winds and dry air that could further fuel wildfires through Saturday.
California has been facing an increasingly severe wildfire season, with prolonged drought conditions and heatwaves making the state highly susceptible to wildfires.
Over the past decade, wildfires have become a growing threat, displacing thousands of residents annually and causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.
