Twitter has changed its brand and logo from its famous blue bird to "X". The new white X on a black background has replaced the blue bird on the desktop version of the social network, although is yet to appear on the mobile app. Nine months after the world's richest man Elon Musk bought one of the world's most popular social media platforms, the major rebrand he has long threatened has begun. "Tweets" will also be replaced, according to Twitter's owner Elon Musk, and posts will be called "x's".

Twitter's iconic bird logo has vanished, replaced by a generic X, as part of an audacious transition into "the everything app" that handles far more than just your desire to get into arguments with strangers online and to have "freedom of speech". Musk has long shown a disregard for what others think about how he should run things he doesn't care that his rebranding has been branded as frightening and threatening by some users.

Audio, video, and even banking will be among the core features, says chief executive Linda Yaccarino, inspired by Musk's admiration for China's all-encompassing WeChat app.

Musk tweeted shortly after his takeover, "And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds".

Musk doesn't want anyone in any doubt as to who killed it. X is being given to us, whether we like it or not.
