A recent report reveals that the Android version of WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows users to add and filter their favorite chats for easier access.
This feature is currently in development and is being rolled out to testers who have signed up through the Google Play Beta program.
Once available in the beta version, these users will be able to see and test the feature. WhatsApp is also testing unread messages and group filters that will display specific conversations.
The feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. This new feature allows users to separate their favorite chats using a new filter, which could be particularly useful for those who receive many messages from various contacts and struggle to find their regular contacts.
While the app already has a chat pinning feature, it only allows a maximum of three pinned chats. The publication also shared a screenshot of this new feature.
In the screenshot, four new filters can be seen at the top of the screen (under the WhatsApp logo). According to reports, the filters for All, Unread, and Groups were added earlier, and now, the fourth filter, Favorites, can also be seen.
How the Favorite Chat Filter on WhatsApp Works
The feature description states, "Make it easy to find the most important people and groups on WhatsApp." Below this, there is an "Add to Favorites" option that can be clicked to manually add contacts to this list.
WABetaInfo also claims that users can remove and rearrange chats according to their preferences. Since the feature is being rolled out in the beta version, not all beta testers may see it immediately, but it is expected to appear in the coming days.
This development comes as WhatsApp continues to enhance user experience by introducing features that streamline communication and make managing chats more efficient. Stay tuned for further updates as the feature progresses through its testing phase and approaches a wider release.
