Insecurity is mainly one of the challenges that Africa is facing in food security. According to data from the Armed Conflict and Event Data (ACLED) website, an unprecedented rise in insecurity has displaced farming communities and hampered farming.

In Nigeria's Borno State - which produces 30% of Nigerian wheat - the "Boko Haram" group's terrorism has stopped the cultivation of more than 400 hectares of wheat in the region.

Terrorist attacks perpetrated by ISIS’s so-called “West Africa Province” (ISWAP) increased by 44% in the Sahel region in 2020. This contributed to the displacement of 1.7 million people - mostly farmers - in the Lake Chad Basin. Also, insecurity has also disrupted food and trade flows.
