The Houthi rebels of the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen have unilaterally released 153 individuals previously detained for their involvement in military operations supporting the Yemeni government forces, according to a statement from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The detainees were freed in Sana'a, with the release being facilitated by the ICRC following a request from Yemen’s National Committee for Prisoners Affairs.

The ICRC, which had been regularly visiting the detainees to ensure humane conditions, provided crucial support to confirm their identities and notify their families about the imminent release.

The organization also conducted health assessments to ensure the detainees were fit for travel, with additional support provided to those in need.

The released individuals are set to be transferred to territories controlled by the internationally recognized Yemeni government.

Abdul Qader al-Murtada, head of the Houthis' Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, confirmed the release order, which was directed by Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi and Mahdi Al-Mashat, president of the movement's Supreme Political Council.
