On Tuesday, Yemen's Houthi movement announced that it had launched missile and drone strikes targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. According to a statement from the group, the attack took place while “the American enemy was preparing for hostile operations against our country.”
The Houthis reported that they successfully thwarted an air attack planned by the U.S. against Yemen. The group also claimed responsibility for a separate attack on two American destroyers in the Red Sea, allegedly carried out using missiles and drones.
In their statement, the Houthis accused the United States and the United Kingdom of escalating military tensions in the Red Sea and transforming the region into a conflict zone. They attributed these actions to Western support for Israel, asserting that their operations would continue unless the "aggression" against Gaza ceases, the blockade is lifted, and hostilities against Lebanon end.
