An official in the Ministry of Tourism revealed that hotel reservations in the coastal areas recorded 100% growth in the areas of Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Ain Sokhna, Sharm El Sheikh, Alexandria and the North Coast during the current week for the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The government official said that the occupancy in Hurghada, Ain Sokhna, the North Coast and Alexandria are approaching complete occupancy with percentages ranging from 85% to 90%, while in Marsa Alam and Sharm el-Sheikh they fall to lower rates to range from 70% to 75%.

Egyptians represent varying proportions of hotel occupancy in different regions; in Hurghada it reaches about 30%, and Ain Sokhna is about 80% as the closest to Cairo, while the percentage peaks in Alexandria and the North Coast and exceeds 95%.

Tamer Makram Youssef, president of the South Sinai Tourism Investors Association said that the occupancy rates recorded significant growth with the influx of Egyptians wishing to spend the Eid al-Adha holiday in Sharm el-Sheikh resorts.

The hotel capacity in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh is about 35,000 rooms out of a total of about 65,000 working rooms in South Sinai Governorate.

The prices of accommodation in the coastal areas vary during the Eid holiday; they peaked in the North Coast to exceed a 5,000 pounds in some resorts to about 20,000 pounds, and there are prices higher than that per night where major singers contracted to hold parties in these resorts." According to the director of one of the tourist resorts in the region.

The arrival of large sums of accommodation prices in the North Coast does not mean that all hotels have these prices, so the prices of accommodation per night for two-star hotels in Matrouh range from 1500 pounds to 10,000 pounds per night in a 5-star hotel.

Abdulrahman Anwar, a member of the hotel room in South Sinai said that the prices of accommodation vary in Sharm el-Sheikh hotels according to their proximity to the sea or those that exist as a second row, starting from 1,500 pounds to about 7,000 pounds and may exceed this number.

The predominant percentages in hotel accommodation in Sharm el-Sheikh resorts for foreigners represent about 70% and the rest for Egyptians, according to Mohammed Eid Suleiman, Marketing Director of Peak Albatros Group for Tourist Resorts, adding: "Although the Eid al-Adha holiday comes in the period of high school exams, we note a large presence of Egyptians.

Tourist flows from Egyptians will not only be limited to the city of Hurghada, but will extend to resorts in Marsa Alam with Air Cairo's decision to operate 5 flights a week to the region.

15 million tourists by the end of the year

Egypt expects to achieve 15 million tourists by the end of this year compared to 11.7 million tourists last year, according to Egyptian Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa.

Elhami Al-Zayat, former president of the Federation of Tourist Rooms said that Egypt is witnessing a tourist popularity during 2023, which is expected to achieve revenues exceeding the realised before 2019, which amounted to about $13.03 billion.
