Nearly $400 million in donations has been raised for relief efforts following the deadly high-rise fire in Hong Kong, with major contributions flowing in from mainland China, Japan, and local donors, according to Hong Kong media.
Wen Wei Po reported that total donations have reached HK$3 billion (about $385 million). Companies in mainland China account for HK$1.2 billion of that sum, making China the largest single contributor.
Japanese rock musician Yoshiki donated $100,000 through his US-based foundation to the Hong Kong Red Cross, noting his long connection with the city and expressing hope for swift relief for survivors.
The fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po last Wednesday killed 151 people, with roughly 30 still missing.
Major Chinese firms, including Alibaba and BYD, have each pledged more than HK$10 million. Alipay also launched a dedicated donation portal that has attracted over 420,000 contributors and raised HK$180 million.
