Honduras plans to purchase drones from Ukraine to strengthen border security and combat drug trafficking, according to President Nasry Asfura.

The announcement follows Asfura's visit to Kyiv, where he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss security cooperation and military technology, including unmanned aerial systems.

Speaking during a regional meeting in Panama, Asfura said the drones would be used to monitor and protect Honduras' borders more effectively and support efforts against organized crime. He added that the technology could also have agricultural applications.

Ukraine has become a global leader in drone warfare since the start of its conflict with Russia in 2022, developing advanced unmanned systems for surveillance and combat operations.

Honduras continues to face significant security challenges linked to drug trafficking and gang violence, with one of the highest homicide rates in the region.
